Diarrhoea and immunization: a valuable ally?
نویسنده
چکیده
Measles immunization appears to be emerging as a cost-effective intervention to reduce the child death rate from diarrhea. It seems that measles infection lowers childhood resistance to diarrheal infections in the environment, and this effect may persist for a significant period. As malnutrition, diarrheal, and other childhood infections interact together to kill, measles immunization needs to be explored as a potential shortcut in diarrheal disease control. Investment in immunization technologies, training, and delivery systems is a worthwhile use of resources because more effective vaccines against acute diarrheal diseases are being developed. Measles immunization may prove to be a valuable ally in the effort to reduce diarrhea morbidity and mortality among young children in the developing countries. At this time, oral rehydration continues as the essential frontline treatment for all acute infectious diarrheas which cause dehydration, whether measles-associated or not.

The measurement of antibody responses of animals exposed to BVDV either through a natural exposure or an immunization protocol is still a standard procedure. For BVDV, the test formats have been largely limited to ELISA which is a valuable diagnostic test to measure the level of BVDV specific antibodies as well as antigen in blood samples. In the present study, 120 blood samples were collected ...

متن کاملAcute diarrhoea in a community cohort of children who received an oral rotavirus vaccine in Northeast Brazil.
Rotavirus is an important cause of childhood diarrhoea. A monovalent rotavirus vaccine (Rotarix®) was introduced into the Immunization Program of Brazil in 2006. In this study, we describe the incidence and burden of disease of rotavirus diarrhoea in two cohorts of children (vaccinated and unvaccinated). We followed two groups of 250 children under one year old, who were enrolled in December 20...
